'The Wrong Stuff' Story Code '67308' by Paul Brown

24th January 1961: Sam is dismayed to find himself in the body of Bobo, a chimpanzee enrolled in the space program ‘Project Mercury’ at Cape Canaveral, Florida. Al, however, is delighted at Sam’s situation, not only because it brings back memories of his time as an astronaut on the Apollo missions, but because Bobo has the attention of an attractive doctor named Leslie Ashton. When Sam tries writing his name in an attempt to communicate with the staff, Al reminds him of the first rule of Quantum Leaping; realising that any strange behaviour will only get him dissected, Sam strives to remain in character, even if it means sleeping in a cage, drinking caterpillar juice, and taking part in numerous stressful experiments. Unfortunately, Sam’s low-performance results in Bobo’s reassignment – condemning him to die from massive head trauma in a cruel crash-helmet research project…
